As technology and social concerns change there are constant demands for new equipment to be put in streets.
This simply adds to street clutter. But there are many opportunities for innovation in the design of street equipment, and each solution should respond to the local needs and character of the locality. This is currently the case with regard to helping the drivers of electric cars by providing power supply pillars on the pavement at parking places.
Could they be lowered below ground level when not in use?
In time a version of the pillar may be available that can be lowered below ground level when not needed, as is currently possible for electrical supplies to temporary market stalls.
